HISTORICAL GARDENS

These gardens are arranged to depict historically accurate plantings. For example, a Lewis and Clark garden would be planted with the plant species that would have been found in a garden of the time when Lewis and Clark came to Oregon. These gardens can be a fun way to learn about history and how it relates to the plant world. A sample research project would be to have students research what crops Lewis and Clark needed to grow to make sure they had food for the winter. These gardens usually are helped by signs, which explain the purpose of each plant.
