OSU Extension 4-H and the Oregon Zoo are partnering to provide a new and exciting learning opportunity for high school teens at the Oregon Zoo. The goals of this program are to provide high school youth with hands on learning opportunities in

Career exploration (zoology, vet science, conservation, education, biological sciences and more)

Leadership

Exploring post high school education paths
Training Seminars and Activities Include:

Exploring personal interests and skills for future careers.

Panel presentation by career professionals in multiple animal and non-animal careers

One-day field excursion to Oregon State University to meet with OSU Faculty and current students to explore higher education options within different college departments

Creative ways to Fund Your Education

Exploring your post-secondary school options
-
Volunteer and part-time job opportunities
-
Building a competitive application for school or work
-
Communication skills
Who can Participate
This program is open to
-
teens in grades 10-12 that are involved in one of these Zoo programs: Zoo Animal Presenters, Zoo Teen Leadership Corp, and the Family Farm Winter Program.

4-H members in the Portland Metro area
How to Enroll
Participating youth must:

Complete the registration process (see below)
-
Commit to a 20 -hour training program and attend all training seminars by OSU and Zoo staff

Pay a $20 registration fee (SCHOLARSHIPS AVILABLE)

Parents are strongly encouraged to attend the final day of training (December 1st)
Registration and Forms
1. STEP ONE: Complete the Online Registration to reserve your spot
2. STEP TWO: Complete the 4-H Health Card and Code of Conduct with parent signature
3. STEP THREE: Submit Payment
Training Dates and Times
Saturdays from 9-1 pm on October 6th, November 3rd and December 1st PLUS an all day field trip on November 13th.
